Free day camp to be held in early August
Camp Kangaroo, a free camp experience and a supportive atmosphere for children who have experienced a loss of a loved one, will be held in Glenview from August 6 to 10.
The camp is hosted by the Seasons Hospice Foundation and is intended for children between the ages of 5 and 13 who have been affected by the loss of a loved one within the past two years. A loss may include a relative, friend or neighbor.
According to the Seasons Hospice Foundation, all kids grieve differently at different times. Because the camp is located in natural park, there is ample room for learning, healing, having fun and making new friends.
The camp will be led by world renowned Dr. Russell Hilliard PhD, LCSW, MT-BC, an expert in grief and bereavement. Staff will include trained social workers, music therapists, chaplains, specialized bereavement volunteers and bereavement counselors.
The camp is free and runs from 9am-3pm beginning Monday August 6 and ending Friday August 10, which includes lunch and a snack each day.
Transportation is also free. Pick-up and drop-off sites include Holy Cross Hospital and other area locations.
